That said, before looking for the property that meets your needs and at least some of your wants, you'll want to pinpoint the top spots to find it. Any of these locations are a good start at finding your version of the best home for sale in Ohio. 


The "Queen City," Cincinnati was recently named the No. 1 place to live in Ohio, making it a must to consider the Cincinnati houses for sale. It scores high when it comes to jobs, value, quality of life, and other factors. 

Some of the best neighborhoods to consider during your search include family-friendly Hyde Park, just 15 minutes east of downtown. You'll find everything from vintage homes to new construction along with appealing attractions. It hosts the top stargazing spot in the city, the Cincinnati Observatory, and Ault Park, the most photogenic greenspace with 223 acres that includes 39 beautifully manicured gardens and densely forested trails.

For singles and couples without kids, a home downtown will put you steps away from many of the city's attractions, including world-class museums, great dining, shopping, nightlife, and Fountain Square, a popular gathering space for events. Over-The-Rhine, or "OTR" as it's more often referred to, lies just north of the Central Business District downtown. It's one of the city's most eclectic, vibrant neighborhoods, including the finest concentration of intact Italianate structures in the country.


There's plenty of gray and scarlet adorning the streets in Columbus, well-known for its passion for college football, with loyalty for the Ohio State Buckeyes a big part of life. Historic German Village is especially charming with its gardens and parks, while Short north offers lots of lively bars and top-notch restaurants. Bexley, a quiet suburb just 10 minutes east of downtown, is ideal for families. Established in 1908, housing options include everything from affordable ranch to Tudor-style homes.


Known as the "gem city," Dayton is one of the most affordable cities in the U.S. It's home to the University of Dayton and has been named one of the best up-and-coming towns for college grads by CBS News. Job opportunities have been increasing, it has an active community, a fantastic bar and beer scene, and multiple historic sites.

Patterson Park is one of the most attractive neighborhoods in Dayton, with quiet streets, well-maintained lawns, and various home styles that mingle successfully together. Like a gated community without the gates, residents spend a lot of time outdoors, and there are many small businesses, including a shopping center, restaurants, bars, and banks. 

Families might want to consider the city just south of Dayton, Oakwood, which has some of the best public schools in the country, rated A+ by Niche.com. It's a new and exceptionally clean community without any substandard housing, yet the median home price is less than $270K. You can find decent options for less than $200,000 or if money is no object, estate mansions for a million or more.
